Hi! Anne-Héloïse Chavin here. I am the founder and brand builder in chief at AHBC Group, a branding agency based in Miami, Florida. We have some exciting news to share (as you probably guessed from the title it involves a Marketing and Branding Podcast), but before we get started, I’d like to introduce myself a bit more in-depth than on my about page.
I am originally from France and studied Marketing and Communications right after High School. I had a bunch of internships with small businesses in journalism, design, and PR which is where I learned my love for editorial style design. It is at these internships that I was able to apply my learning and get direct hands-on experience that helped engrain the key marketing theories I had been learning. After graduating with my master’s, I moved to the United States, where I worked in a property management/ real estate company. I eventually went back to Europe to complete a second master’s degree in marketing brand and business development. I was really interested in the customer experience and wanted to see how larger companies built and managed their marketing strategy. I started out with Procter & Gamble in the female grooming department which was headquartered in Switzerland. I worked with brands like Braun and Gillette Venus. I was an Assistant Brand Manager here and did a lot of research and data-based decision-making for the brand. It was very interesting, however, it was missing one of the main things I enjoyed: creativity. When I worked at P&G a majority of the creative aspects were outsourced to agencies. After my time at P&G, I stayed in Switzerland and worked for Nespresso. I worked with both digital and outdoor marketing here. I was in charge of campaign deployment for a large market. I learned a lot about consistency and positioning for high-end, luxury brands here. There are stricter guidelines when it comes to these brands because they were luxury brands. This is where I started to miss my creative independence. Because there are so many guidelines and processes in place with these larger brands, turnaround time is a lot longer and there was less wiggle room when it came to creative design. I enjoyed having had experiences with both small businesses and corporations. I think they both lent a great deal to my growth as a brand builder.
Fast forward a bit and my agency AHBC Group was born! AHBC Group was created because I wanted to bridge the marketing strategy gap between small businesses and larger companies. Within my experience with small businesses and corporations, I noticed that there was a lack of strategy in smaller businesses that the larger companies had. Because small businesses typically have smaller teams, they are forced to be more reactive, which makes it hard to plan ahead and strategize. As I began talking to small businesses again about their strategies I noticed that there was no game plan. They would mention they were focusing on SEO because someone told them this was most important but their website would look terrible. They would be spending all their money on SEO and ads but the website they were driving their customers to would not be optimized. This is where I came in with strategy. It can be something as simple as this. It’s all about doing things in the right order and I think a lot of small businesses miss this point because they are not in the field. I wanted to have an offer that integrated everything a small business would need to effectively perform so we could look at things in a smarter way and figure out from the business objectives where we should spend the dollars. Especially since smaller businesses typically have a limited budget, it is important to know where to put your dollars. AHBC Group has a heavy focus on new businesses or smaller businesses that may have a few years under their belt already but need a little direction or elevation. I like to work with purpose-driven entrepreneurs. This could be anyone wanting to create positive change, switching to sustainable habits, or vegan brands. I connect strongly with people who know their ‘why’ and their business purpose or those who kind of have an idea and they need my help in order to define their exact ‘why’. AHBC Group then helps bring that ‘why’ forward in the best light to reach their dream client/customer.
