Summary. A custom food truck manufacturer that sells nationwide, and closes every sale through its own sales team, went from 200K to 1.3M in monthly sales in three months, on 30% less marketing spend. The sales team did not change. What changed is that ad spend started following closed sales instead of clicks. We brought three sources into one place: the sales, the Google Ads account and an export of the CRM, where every sale records the answer to “How did you hear about us”. Reading closed sales against their recorded origin showed which channels and which states really produced buyers, and the budget moved there. Marketing spend went from 15% of sales to 1.58% over the same three months.
Through the client’s CRM, not through the ad platforms. Every sale in the CRM carries a “How did you hear about us” field. We built a hub that brings three sources together: the sales, the Google Ads account and a CRM export. The CRM field told us which channel each buyer came from, and the sales data told us where those buyers were. There was no call tracking and no import of offline conversions into the ad platforms. The link between a sale and its origin came from the CRM field, read alongside the ad data.
The client had a strong product and a sales team with a real process. Its projects are expensive and often financed, so buyers take a long time to decide and close by phone and in meetings, where the ad platforms cannot see. Marketing had been run in-house, and the ads were not yet steered by the sales that actually closed.
We started with an audit in January, took over Google Ads in February and the rest of the marketing in March. We worked through the channels in the order of where the money was being spent.
Because the budget stopped following what the ad platforms report and started following the sales the company actually closed. When you can trace a sale back to its campaign, you stop paying for clicks that never reach the sales team.
In this case, through the CRM. Every sale records the answer to “How did you hear about us”. We brought the sales, the Google Ads account and a CRM export together in one hub, and read each closed sale against its recorded origin. No call tracking and no offline conversion import were used.
Yes, if the sales data is brought back into the marketing decisions. Here, reading closed sales from the CRM, with their “How did you hear about us” source, next to the sales and the Google Ads data is what moved the budget to the channels, the states and the searches that produced buyers.
Paid search to catch buyers when they are actively looking, geographic targeting based on where sales actually close, negative keywords to stop paying for the wrong intent, retargeting to stay present during a long decision, and email that moves each lead to the sales team at the right moment.
